sunday walk

Despite it being rather soggy because of the melting snow I walked my usual three miles outside today. The weather was spring like and it didn't take me long to get my miles in. I also walked/ran one mile indoors at the Y before I lifted weights. For December I have lifted the equivalent of eleven elephants. Love that! School has started up again and I have subbed two days already. I always make a point to stand as much as possible when I sub. In fact, I don't usually sit down during the day unless I am eating lunch. I am having some trouble posting pics to this blog so if you don't see one assume that I am still working on this problem. Other than that, life is good!

numbers

53: miles on my new car. I'm getting used to it. I miss my little Honda and feel somewhat intimidated by this new one.
12: days till school starts. Since I'm just a sub my preparation is mostly mental. And getting new school clothes!
4.10: miles I walked last week. Shocking I know!
1: bald eagle I saw this morning. I just knew it was going to be a stellar day!

mothers day bike

Yesterday I rode fourteen miles on my new Mother's Day bike. I rode all the way to mile 150 and back. My butt was alittle sore but I love my new bike.Woo Hoo! The day before I walked 5.26 miles on the Washington Park trail; my first time on the trail this year. Today I walked a little over a mile in the hood but rain prevented me from going any distance.

hello

I've taken a break from blogging but I've still managed to keep busy. I've been:
  • Reading. Today I read the best book by Eric Carle called Flora and Tiger. It's a collection of stories about his life. Read it. Even if you're not a little kid, you will enjoy it.
  • Subbing.
  • Walking. This week I've walked about eighteen miles.
  • Shopping. But not for jewelry!
  • Being thankful for everything God had given me.

appointments

I walked 5.14 miles yesterday and 5.06 miles today. I also made two appointments, a doctor's appointment and a mammogram. It's so silly. I was without insurance for three years. I would lie in bed at night so scared that I would have an accident or get really sick and when I got to the hospital, they would just close the door on me. Now that I have insurance I really need to take advantage of it and get all those tests that I'm supposed to have. And like all good teachers I schedule all my personal appointments in the summertime!

walking

I have been walking four miles every day this week except for yesterday. I attended a funeral; my first one so far this year. Sometimes they come in waves you know. This particular funeral was Catholic. I love their ceremony and music and even the incense. Earlier this morning I was called to sub tomorrow in third grade, one of my favorites but I had to decline. They're putting in my new kitchen cabinets and I want to be here!

the classroom

Do I miss them? A little bit...but this week so far I have walked twelve miles, had a three hour lunch date with a dear friend yesterday and this morning after walking, I returned my broken Brighton bracelet back to the little boutique that I had originally purchased it and they are going to replace it. Oh yes, I couldn't resist, I had to buy a new one as well.

friends

I don't usually walk seven miles but today on the trail I met a friend and we talked and walked and by the time I got back to my car, my pedometer read seven miles. Later when I was grocery shopping I heard my maiden name, it happened to be a long ago friend from high school. I was very flattered that she recognized me as I would have never placed her. So yes, taking care of yourself, sunscreen, exercising, avoiding junk and too much sugar does pay off!!
