I'm not weepy anymore. That stage lasted probably two weeks. After the doctor gave him the shots to put him to sleep, we wrapped him in his puppy blanket and placed him into a pine box that Hubby lovingly nailed together the night before. We buried him in our backyard under the triple cedar tree, his favorite. I still miss him like crazy.
I don't miss subbing. I have been keeping very busy with my walking and working out routine at the Y. And reading lots of nonfiction: I'm finishing up The Hot Zone now.
The cedar tree where Sam is buried. This is an old pic I found on the blog. Its September now, no snow yet! It gets little blue berries in the fall and the birds have a heyday stripping them when they appear. In a couple of days, the berries are gone!

yesterday
I subbed yesterday. I asked a little girl if she had had a good weekend. Remember yesterday was Monday. "Oh yeah," she came back without missing a beat. "Mom made banana bread."

sundog
It was mid 60s today and I was subbing. I subbed yesterday too. After school when I was helping load kids on the bus, I happened to look up at the sky. I saw a sundog and I know what that means: there's going to be a big change in the weather. I need to get myself prepared mentally for the really cold temps.

Christmas cookies
Yesterday I didn't walk but I baked Christmas cookies instead. We made the traditional German leb cookie. In past years we have always halved the recipe but this year we decided to do it right and make the whole recipe; 25 dozen cookies! Then I made the Candy Cane Blossoms from Pinterest because they are just so cute. Today I taught second grade.

all is well
I've been fine. Actually better than fine, I'm all healed from my accident and things are going well. I walked today on the Green way my regular four miles. I was tempted to go to the Katy but its really too crowded for me on the weekends. I've been subbing and doing a little decorating and spending time everyday reading. And celebrating; the Cards are in the playoffs! Go Cards!

mileage
We're in the middle of the last heat wave of the summer here. I walked 4.40 miles this morning and finished before nine. I was going to stop at Target but I felt the sweat dripping off my pony tail and decided to head it home. I always have ice water in my car for the drive back home. I've been missing the Katy and was planning to go biking last week but was called to sub that morning. September is almost here; I'll feel more like biking then.

kudzu
I rode fourteen miles this morning. It was at least three weeks since I was on my bike. I went to the Katy and took some pictures. The kudzu is really out of control.
I came home starving so I fixed a romaine, avocado and tomato salad. With my usual diet Dr. Pepper.
Tomorrow is Braille in the morning and subbing in the afternoon. No riding till Thursday.

a call to sub
My phone rang yesterday or rather chirped ( I have a frog ring tone) and it was the secretary at school asking me to sub. Wow, school hasn't even officially started yet but she knew she needed someone to sub in first grade next week. Sorry to say I had something planned on that day so I had to decline but mentally I am ready to get back to a routine. For the past week or so I've taken a little break from biking/walking/daily exercise. Even though the weather is beautiful sometimes for me it is more beneficial to read books and watch birds out on my patio.

mileage
Today I walked 4.34 miles downtown. I like walking downtown on the weekend. It's totally dead and I can act a little silly if I want to. This week I walked/biked a total of 30.52 miles, up from last week when my low was 25. 21 miles. My best week was the second week in June; 37.18 miles. For the month of June I totaled 127.97 miles. I received $661.00 for subbing in May.

mile 150
I rode to Claysville and back this morning. It was already getting warm at 9:30 but I didn't care. It felt great to be on the trail riding. I saw indigo buntings five different times, could have been the same bird although I'm pretty sure I saw a male and female. The male is a beautiful teal blue color while the female is grayish. I also saw bunnies and a diamond back rattler sunning on the trail. But no butterflies this trip which is a puzzlement for me. I always see little cabbage whites or a sulfur or two but not this morning. Tomorrow and the next day I am scheduled to sub so no riding till Friday. Thank you God for this beautiful day and allowing me to enjoy it.

hello
I've taken a break from blogging but I've still managed to keep busy. I've been:
- Reading. Today I read the best book by Eric Carle called Flora and Tiger. It's a collection of stories about his life. Read it. Even if you're not a little kid, you will enjoy it.
- Subbing.
- Walking. This week I've walked about eighteen miles.
- Shopping. But not for jewelry!
- Being thankful for everything God had given me.

subbing
My shopping trip on Friday was successful and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to go when I did as I am scheduled to teach for the next four days. I brought home three pairs of pants, actually had to go down two sizes! And two shirts. Also a new pair of Nikes for fall/winter walking.

third grade
I was called early this morning to sub in third grade. The teacher left a huge pile of work. I just love it when they do that because it keeps the kids busy and I get to blame the teacher. So we read and checked out new library books from the school media center. We played math games on the SmartBoard and practiced their Christmas musical. We had a phonics lesson on "ou" and "ow" and a worksheet on plants and energy. Here's a cute math game to teach rounding: Pass out number cards, 0, 10, 20, 30 to 100. Pass out nine sided dice. With a partner the kids take turns rolling the dice. If the number is 14, they pick up the 10 card. If the 10 card is missing, they can turn the number into 41 and pick up the 40 card. Play continues until all the cards are gone. The kid with the most cards is the winner.

that's never happened before
Yesterday was election day. It was a good turn-out according to our County Clerk. All of the races were at the local level; school board, city council and of course, the trash issue. I voted for all the winners and the Proposition to get the trash issue changed was defeated by 74%.
I am still waiting for Kindergarten Baby and I know this will be my last "free" week for awhile. I'm sure I will be facing twentytwo little kids next Monday morning. I'm sad because it took so long for the warm spring weather to arrive and now that it's here, I'll be stuck in school. I need to appreciate the opportunity to be a teacher again and make sure it's a fun experience for teacher and kids!

walk and work
Two pictures from my walk yesterday; the weather was in the mid 40's and you can tell by the first one that the sun was out. I fell in the mud getting the last one. That's okay, a little mud doesn't hurt anybody.
Today I subbed as a facilitator for Little Paralyzed Girl. We played a special game with sight words. We (or I did) shook a jar filled with rice. Along with the rice were little plastic squares with words like: have, do, yes, what, am, was... When a word appeared from the rice, she said it, then we spelled it with magnetic letters. She is really a bright little kid. I called her Rapunzel because of her long, blond hair.

Back to Work
The baby came on the 9th. 9/09/09, that's a great birthday! So my first day of subbing was Wednesday, the 10th. Yesterday was Patriot's Day so the whole school sported red, white and blue. I read a book, SEPTEMBER 12, written by a first-grade class from Kennett, Missouri eight years ago. The kids I was reading to weren't even born yet but I showed them the number 3,000 and they agreed it was a huge number. Next Monday is Grandparent's Day so I have to stay over and greet kids, parents, grannies and grandpas; that will be one long day!
